Matt found this off-white cotton windbreaker in Los Angeles on a picking trip. Made in the ‘60s by the Virginia apparel company Dan River (the leading U.S. producer of lightweight yarn-dyed fabrics, including oxford cloth, denims, and broadcloth, used by clothing manufacturers including Brooks Brothers, L.L. Bean, and Arrow), the jacket features red lettering on the back applied in a classic chain stitch method that reads Goosebumps. There are a variety of patches that let everyone the original owner – Don, according to the name stitched on the left breast - was part of the 1963 Water Ski Championship in Long Beach, California (says so on the patch stitched on to the left arm) and attended the 1967 National Drag Boat Championship, also in Long Beach (the patch on his right arm covers that). The front right breast sports a tag that reads Long Beach Boat-Ski Club: Club of Champions.
Measurements: Length, 24 1/2”; across shoulders, 19 1/4”; sleeve length, 23 1/2”; cuff (closed), 9 3/4”; chest, 45 1/2”; waist, 42 3/4”; collar, 16 1/2”. Two plastic buttons at each wrist, a metal zipper, and two slit front pockets. Tag reads: Dan River Fabric, Wash and Wear, Medium.
